I have to admit I have never been a fan of the previous Bachmann On30 Freight Cars. They always seemed a bit toy like in appearance and very unrealistic. There have been numerous articles published about how to modify these cars to achieve a closer to scale appearance. These modifications varied and seemed to take about as much time as building a craftsman kit.
Until now! Bachmann has introduced their line of smaller 18′ rolling stock. Bachmann appears to be moving in the direction of creating rolling stock for the On30 modeler looking for a cars with a bit more O scale craftsman qualities. Read the rest of this entry »

New from Morgan Hill Models is a 20′ Tank Car kit. The kit consists of detailed resin frame and tank castings along with basswood decking and tank supports. This is a nice addition to their line of cast resin kits. If you think you would like one you better hurry they are only producing 25 kits this run in order to deliver in a timely manner.

Morgan Hill Models has introduced another On30 car in their industrial models series. The 20′ Blacksmith Car is a well detailed kit that includes a Special Blacksmith figure from Aspen Model Co. The kit is comprised of a detailed cast resin frame with basswood deck boards and structure framing. Details include skid mounted water tank, workbench, stove, barrels and corrugated metal for the roof. Trucks and couplers are not included, but Macleod Western T-16′s and Kadee #5′ couplers are shown in the photo. At $39.95 this looks to be quite a bargain!

New On30 information from Stoney Creek designs

New Kits
Roger has indicated over on his site Stoney Creek Designs that he will be adding a line of small easy to build structure kits These commercial type buildings will be kept in stock on a regular basis. This seems to be a growing trend with more than a few of the structure kit manufacturers to provide this type of structure kit. Photos or pricing was not yet announced. With regards to larger kits The Majestic Theatre will be the second kit for 2010 and be available at the National Narrow gauge show.

New freight cars!
Two new tank cars (frameless and wood frame) versions will be added, as well as another style of boxcar to the freight car line. No photos or pricing was announced.
